The two main species used are Quercus robur and Quercus petraea, found in the six central French forests known for oak: Limousin, Vosges, Nevers, Bertranges, Allier and Troncias. , imported directly from France. These barrels were used for winemaking and aging wine in wineries in Canada for several years before they were retired and discarded.
